After being arrested on February 24, Senator Leila de Lima wrote a letter addressed to her loved ones where he relayed her disappointment on her arrest saying, “her whole being cries for truth and justice.”
The handwritten letter, sent to ABS-CBN, was dated March 1, 2017.
In the letter, De Lima sympathized with the victims of injustice saying: “My heart also bleeds for all other victims of injustice those who were falsely accused and now cramped in severely congested jails.”
“But God who is all knowing and infinitely good and just will make sure that evil will not triumph,” the senator added.
De Lima also stated that she is praying for more strength and fortitude. She ended the letter by saying, “Let’s all be strong… Love you all.”
The detained senator was arrested due to drug trafficking charges, specifically for allegedly receiving money from drug dealers inside New Bilibid Prison (NBP), according to ABS-CBN News.
