The site of the planned common station for Light Rain Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) was again inspected by the House Committee on Transportation.
The lawmakers also rode the LRT during their inspection, according to GMA News.
A discussion about the proposed plan to construct a temporary LRT station in front of SM City North EDSA Annex in Quezon City was also conducted by the committee members.
The temporary station was proposed by Light Rail Manila Corporation chief Rogelio Singson to the Department of Transportation for the construction for the planned LRT-MRT common station has not yet started.
The Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) in 2014, in favor of SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI) to suspend the construction of the station.
This was issued after Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) decided to construct a station near TriNoma in spite of signing a deal with SMPHI in 2009 to build a common station near SM North EDSA.
In spite of the signing of memorandum of agreement stating that the common station will be constructed between the two malls, the TRO has not yet been lifted.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez claimed that the discussions for the project have taken too long already. Thus, the common station should now be built with or without the TRO for the public’s welfare.
