The newly upgraded private general hospital, Fe Del Mundo Medical Center (FDMMC), in Banawe, Quezon City was inaugurated Thursday.
“This is a very good initiative and a very good response to the people’s need for quality health care,” Health Undersecretary Dr. Gerardo Bayugo said as he toured the medical center to see its equipment and facilities.
“I think this will be very much affordable, especially now that PhilHealth (Philippine Health Insurance Corp.) covers 100 percent of the population.”
On behalf of the Department of Health (DOH), Bayugo thanked the FDMMC management for helping the department secure the health of Filipinos.
The newly inaugurated hospital was founded as a pediatric center by Dr. Fe del Mundo, the first woman pediatrician to be admitted to the Harvard Medical School in 1936, the first woman to be named National Scientist of the Philippines in 1980, and a recipient of various local and international awards.
The FDMMC was known as the Children’s Memorial Hospital when it was established in 1957 with a 107-bed capacity and an array of services for pediatric patients.
To expand its services to cover adults, the FDMMC upgraded its facilities in the past three years to become a complete medical facility with equipment for all medical needs.
According to the hospital’s operations director, Richard Lirio, the FDMMC is currently under the management of Mount Grace Hospitals, which offers facilities and services in allergocology, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, with various sub-specialties in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, anesthesia and pain management, and comprehensive diagnostic services.
“We are continuously improving and expanding our services to achieve our goal of giving our patients quality and affordable medical services,” he said.
