City of San Fernando, Pampanga — Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda has expressed alarm over the increased number of drug surrenderers despite the step – up drive by concerned government agencies and the law enforcers to eradicate illegal drug activities in the province.
As of January 22, there are a total of 22,281 drug surrenderers and that 21,656 of them are drug users while 625 are drug pushers.
These figures were presented to Pineda by Senior Superintendent Joel Consulta, Pampanga Provincial Police Office (PPO) provincial director, during the peace and order council meeting at Kingsborough International Convention Center, here, recently.
Consulta explained that in the 3rd quarter of last year, the PPO recorded more than 11,000 drug surrenderers.
The governor said the increase in drug suspects surrendering has negated all the efforts made by the provincial government, especially after launching the “Dalan Ning Pamagbayu” which is focused on the reformation and rehabilitation of Kapampangans who fell to the ills of illegal drugs.
“If we searched all of the corners of Pampanga, all of the barangays, and declared them to be free of drug dens, shabu laboratories, or drugs, then why is there an increase in number? The chiefs-of-police (COPs) are there, the mayors are there… This is alarming,” the governor said.
