Roxas City – Soldiers are also peace builders, people’s protectors and social workers.
Public Affairs Office head Lt. Col. Ericson Rosana of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division said the troops are focused more on the civil military operations.
“We are now giving emphasis on roles of the soldiers here as peace builders, people’s protectors and social workers based on our Development Support and Security Plan-Kapayapaan,” Rosana said.
During the meeting of the Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers, Rosana explained that the DSSP-Kapayapaan program replaced the six-year Internal Peace and Security Plan Bayanihan that expired last December 31.
He said the thrust of the DSSP “Kapayapaan” is to neutralize terrorists and extremist groups, support the peace process with the communist New People’s Army, and back up law enforcement agencies especially in fighting illegal drugs and criminality.
Rosana said four of the 10 provinces in 3ID’s area of coverage were still coping with insurgency problems.
