The premium point-to-point (P2P) bus service operated by Froelich, which takes passengers only at terminals without picking up or alighting passengers along EDSA, has been suspended until further notice.

In its Facebook post on Friday, January 6, the express bus service said the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board imposed the suspension on its services to and from SM North, Trinoma, Eton Centris, Megamall and Glorietta 5.

It apologized to affected commuters and thanked them for their continued patronage during its 12-month run.

In another Facebook post quoting its CEO Chris Bauer, the service attributed the “unfortunate incident” to a now viral “video and an unreasonable complaint from a certain netizen.”

While it did not name the said netizen, the post was referring to the video uploaded by veteran broadcaster Alex Santos showing a P2P bus plying along EDSA in Quezon City without license plate and registration, which he said has no right to travel.

He urged the Department of Transportation to act immediately.

Backlash

But the backlash was quick as Santos’ post was bombarded by comments from some P2P commuters who were inconvenienced by the suspension.

Some claimed that since the bus unit is brand new, its license plate and registration are still being processed.

Some commenters also accused Santos of ignoring the plight of the commuters, while some questioned the legality of filming while driving.

Bauer of P2P bus service said: “The chain reaction of these accusations, compared with misunderstandings and certain overreactions caused a massive inconveniences for more than 10,000 public commuters.”

Bauer assured to step up efforts to resume operations and clear its name.

He vowed to deploy buses to riders “free of charge” and reimburse the unused return tickets and monthly passes.

The premium P2P buses are spacious airconditioned buses with TV monitors and restrooms in some bus units, offering a convenient, albeit pricier, alternative to passenger buses in a bid to relieve congestion along EDSA.
