Mondragon, Northern Samar – The Department of Agrarian Reform regional office 8 (DAR-8) recently distributed 118 certificate of landownership awards (CLOAs) to 99 farmers from two remote villages in this town, a report from DAR-8 said.
DAR-8 Assistant Regional Director Ma. Fe Malinao, told reporters in an interview that the distribution of the CLOAs to the 99 farmers who are the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) was held at the covered court of the municipal hall. Attending the event held late this month were municipal officials led by Mondragon Mayor Mario Madera.
Malinao said the 118 CLOAs cover a total area of 123.8 hectares of farmlands which are in Barangays Talolora and La Trinidad in this town.
In a seminar, the DAR-8 has explained to the farmers their responsibilities as recipients of the land transfer program. The farmers are not allowed to sell or mortgage the awarded lands under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) as stated in the CLOA, Malinao said.
She told reporters that DAR-8 will provide necessary support services and farm equipment to ARBs in Eastern Visayas to improve their farm production that will boost farm production and eventually increase the income of the farmers.
