A police commando was hurt when an improvised explosive device exploded during a raid at the residential compound of the Maute brothers’ mother in Marawi City early Tuesday, December 6.
Reports say the hurt PNP Special Action Force member stepped into a trip wire of an IED in the compound.
War materiel such as two homemade bombs and utility bills were seized from the five houses belonging to Farhana Maute, the mother of brothers Abdul and Omar, in a joint operation by the military and police under a search warrant.
But Farhana was nowhere in the compound during the raid.
ABS-CBN News quoted the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in alleging Farhana as the financier of the Maute group, which occupied parts of Butig, Lanao Del Sur last week. Farhana, a former government contractor, belong to an affluent family whose sons were sent to study and allegedly radicalized in the Middle East.
GMA News, meanwhile, reported that troops immediately neutralized another IED with an 81-mm mortar as main charge.
