The Presidential Security Group (PSG) on Sunday emphasized its readiness to protect President Rodrigo R. Duterte after the militant Maute Group threatened to behead the chief executive.
“We will always be ready to protect the President,” said PSG spokesperson Lt. Col. Michael Aquino. “Our men are trained for it and we are also given enough support to do it,” he added.
The PSG issued the statement after the Maute group, before fleeing Butig town in Lanao Del Sur, reportedly threatened to behead the president and the military.
A report by GMA News said the Maute left the messages that read: “Humanda kayong mga sondaro/popogotan namen kayo ng mga olo” and “TAGOT/Homanda ka Duterte popotan/namen ikaw nang olo.”
The military was able to retake control of the town last Thursday after days of heavy fighting with the militant group.
