Embattled Senator Leila de Lima urged authorities to spare Ronnie Dayan—her former lover, ex-driver and bodyguard—and suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa from any difficulties now the two are in authorities’ hands.
Huwag na niyo silang pahirapan pa, mga criminal man sila o hindi,” she said.
De Lima earlier admitted having a relationship with Dayan.
President Rodrigo Duterte previously tagged Dayan as de Lima’s bagman when he said the senator was involved deeply in the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison while she was justice secretary.
Though the public is aware that Dayan had long been wanted by the government, de Lima said the Duterte government was keen on implicating her in the drug trade by raising the issue about their previous relationship so they can pin her down in the drug trade.
De Lima reiterated her innocence from the charges, urging her detractors to sue her instead.
