A fire broke out in a fitness center at the Glorietta 3 mall in Makati City Sunday night, November 20.

Netizens at or near the mall tweeted photos and videos of the fire.

SFO4 Joel Aquino of Makati City fire station said the blaze was reported at 7:55 p.m., with 11 fire engines initially sent to put out the fire.

As of 8:30 p.m., the fire was placed under first alarm.

Initial reports say the fire originated at the upper level of Gold’s Gym, which occupies the mall’s first three floors.

It was fully extinguished at 9:09 p.m., the Bureau of Fire Protection said.

Arson investigators have yet to inspect the establishment, as well as an adjacent restaurant, to determine the cause and the extent of the damage.

In a tweet, the Glorietta mall management said it is managing the situation and that no one was hurt.

The mall would remain closed for the rest of the night.

The fire set off chaos and panic at the mall, with some mall goers screaming while making a mad dash to the exits.

Mall security personnel ordered customers to evacuate until the fire was contained.
