Villasis, Pangasinan — A hard-hitting radio commentator was shot and wounded by motorcycle-riding assailants along the Villasis-Asingan Road in Barangay Poblacion Zone 1, here, at dawn yesterday.
Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, local chief of police, said Virgilio Maganes, 59, single, a local radio commentator and resident of Barangay San Blas, here, was riding his Euro motorized tricycle with license plate 3008-ZG when he was waylaid at 5:40 a.m.
The gunmen, who were riding-in-tandem on a motorcycle, apparently thought Maganes was already dead as he lay bloodied and fallen on the ground that they even left a placard with the message, “Huwag ako tularan, adik ako,” beside his body.
Florentino did not buy the idea that Maganes is linked to drugs. “Maaaring gusto lang iligaw ang motibo ng krimen at bago pa ang pamamamaril ay nakapagblotter na ang biktima ng mga banta sa kaniyang buhay (It’s possible that the crime investigation is being misled, because prior to the shooting incident, the victim had already filed a police blotter report that his life is under threat),” he said.
Florentino added that Maganes was later taken to the Dr. Chan Hospital in Barangay Carmen, Rosales town, where it was found that he sustained graze bullet wounds in the right side of his body.
