Butuan City – One of four armed men, who accosted and engaged three Army soldiers in a shootout, was killed Saturday morning in Sitio Maria, Barangay Pagtilaan, in Lingig town, Surigao del Sur, a regional Army spokesman yesterday said.
In a press statement, Capt. Rhyan B. Batchar of the Army’s 10th Infantry (Agila) Division (10th ID) identified the slain man as Ricky Ponciano, a 25-year-old local resident.
He was killed when his group reportedly harassed the soldiers from the 67th Infantry Battalion (67IB), who were in civilian clothes while visiting Sitio Maria at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday. According to a police report from the Lingig Municipal Police Station (MPA), a soldier confronted one of the four armed men, who accosted them at the barangay’s multi-purpose hall. But one of the armed men suddenly drew a caliber .45, while another companion fired at the soldiers from about 15 meters away.
