Iloilo City – Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from this city and the province of Iloilo have been remitting an estimated P12 billion annually.
This was disclosed by Jose Resol Jr., area coordinator of Atikha Overseas Workers and Communities Initiative Inc., who said that this made Ilonggo OFWs one of the highest contributors in annual remittances in the country.
The country gets over P30 billion in remittances from OFWs each year.
Resol was one of the speakers in a finance management training seminar held last September 20 for 100 Ilonggo OFWs who work in Hong Kong and Singapore.
The training seminar was organized by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the Iloilo provincial government with support from Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-6) and Atikha.
PESO-Iloilo Chief Francisco Heler said the Iloilo provincial government was a signatory to the national government’s Migration and Development Integration (MDI) program.
OFW participants were trained in managing family income, savings and investing as well as securing insurance.
