This as the Philippines is set to host the 30th edition of the biennial sports event in 2019.

According to Duterte, the hosting of the SEA Games is an opportunity to look for more talented Filipinos in the field of sports.

“In 2019, I am honored that the Philippines will host the 30th Southeast Asian Games. This will be an opportunity for us to look for talented Filipino athletes from all over the country,” Duterte said in his speech Wednesday night.

“Thus, I enjoin the PSC to widen its scope and recruit nationwide. Look for them in nontraditional places and include members of the indigenous tribes and the out-of-school youth,” he added.

“Let us give them a chance to hone their talents and live up to their fullest potentials,” he continued.

Finally!! So tired of our sports organizations selecting athletes only from elite schools or the privileged. They spend most of their budget on athletes who can already afford to pay for themselves. Filipino sports is so full of politics. It’s who you are, what your family name is, what school you’re from. Ordinary Filipinos don’t even count sports as a way to improve their way of life. What is more important, more medals by getting more FOREIGN athletes who have a semblance of Filipino in them? Naturalization?
