Tagbilaran City – Bohol will be the venue of another Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) meeting this coming October. Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto revealed this development yesterday at the People’s Mansion during the monthly meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council.
Chatto said this time it will be the finance ministers who will be meeting in the island province.
In April, Bohol was the venue of the trade ministers meeting of the ASEAN.
The meeting was held with threats on the peace and order situation as Abu Sayyaf Group bandits entered the province a week prior to the event.
“We are not yet done with the hosting, because the ASEAN summit will finally be held in November,” said Chatto.
Bohol was supposed to host one meeting. Due to the preparation, coordination and the positive feedback of the ASEAN delegates, the province was chosen as a venue for another conference.
Chatto sees the next ASEAN gathering as a springboard to make the province a convention destination.
It will be boosted by more international visitors expected to arrive in Bohol after the completion of the New Bohol Airport in Panglao Island come March 2018.
Delegates of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, early this month, gave the province’s hosting high marks and positive feedback.
