Bautista: Nobody is irreplaceable

By MB Online

Believing that nobody is irreplaceable, embattled Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Andres Bautista appeals for patience and a little time for discernment before he reveals his decision on whether or not to resign or face an impeachment.

“Hindi naman tayo kapit tuko (I don’t cling to the position),” Bautista said.

In a radio interview, Bautista admitted that he has reached a crossroad in his life where is now weighing the interests of his family, the Comelec, democracy, and the 2016 elections.

“I will make a decision in the next few days,’ he said.

Bautista said he has been receiving a number of advice. “All of these I listened to and taking into consideration but I cannot just make a decision based on emotion.”

“Meron tayong pamilya at mga kaibigan. Sa puno’t dulo, and pinakamahalagang gabay ay yung galing sa itaas. (I have my family and well-meaning friends. In the end, the most important guidance would be the one coming from above.) I know I need to make a decision immediately. I’m asking for patience and a little time for discernment. That’s what I am doing now. I want to know if this matches with what God wants me to do,” he added.

Bautista also dismissed accusations that he has become ineffective in his job as Comelec chair.

“Habang ako po ay nakaupo bilang chairman ng Comelec, lahat ng trabaho ay nagagampanan ko. (For as long as I am the Comelec chairman, I have been able to fulfill all my duties.) That I have not been able to do my work is not true. I was absent for one day and I filed a leave of absence. I went to the congressional budget hearing,” he stressed.

“In the end, I want to be able to get the blessing from above on what I have to do,” he said.
