Camp Bancasi, Butuan City – The chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) will take over as commander of the Army’s Northeastern and Northern Mindanao 4th Infantry Division (4th ID) on Wednesday.
Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva will replace Maj. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr.
Madrigal, a member of Philippine Military Academy Class of 1985, assumed leadership of the Southern Luzon (Solcom) based in Camp Nakar, Lucena City, last Friday, replacing Lt. Gen. Ferdinand Quidilla who is retiring after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56 on August 30, 2017.
Madrigal served as 4th ID’s commander for 17 months and his new assignment as Solcom chief is a promotion, said 4th ID spokesman Capt. Joe Patrick A. Martinez.
Villanueva is Madrigal’s batchmate at PMA.
Villanueva is the son of Brig. Gen. Rogelio F. Villanueva who commanded the 4th ID from March 28, 1988 to March 19, 1990.
The father was assigned as brigade commander in Agusan provinces before his promotion as the 4th ID chief.
