President Duterte has offered the country’s sympathy and solidarity with the United Kingdom following the deadly explosion at a pop concert in Manchester.
“Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte sends his deepest sympathies and concern to the families of the dead and wounded in the Manchester incident; as well as appreciation for the excellent handling by police/security forces,” Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said.
“We are in solidarity with the United Kingdom in addressing and combating violent extremism,” he said.
The President’s message of sympathy was sent just as he arrived in Russia for an official visit. Duterte is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to boost the bilateral relations.
Twenty-two people were reportedly killed in the explosion at the end of a concert by US singer Ariana Grande at Manchester Arena. Some of the victims were children.
Dozens of others were injured by the powerful blast. The attack was reportedly carried out by a man who died at the bombing.
