El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental – The Universal Catholic Church will celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy at the shrine of Divine Mercy here on Sunday, April 23, where thousands of Catholic faithful are expected to attend the pilgrimage.
Fr. Walerian Pozniak, Director of Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy said the shrine has been known as a religious pilgrimage place in the country since it became a shrine in 2008.
“This year, we are expecting that thousands and thousands of more pilgrims, visitors, devotees, and general faithful will join the Feast of Mercy celebration which is the biggest annual event in the shrine,” Pozniak said.
The commemoration of the feast actually starts at 9 a.m. today with the “Kumpisal ng Bayan.” Diocesan and other priests invited from outside Cagayan de Oro city will join the hearing of confessions that will last until 12 midnight.
At 3 a.m. Sunday, a procession of the Divine Mercy image will be staged, before a Eucharistic Celebration at 4 a.m. at the field altar ground with Archbishop Jose Palma of the Archdiocese of Cebu as the main celebrant.
“There will be six other masses that will be celebrated at the church and filed altar during the two-day celebrations,” Pozniak said.
