Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III said on Monday that the bereaved families of four Filipino workers overseas who died in a vehicular accident in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) are entitled to financial assistance from the government.

“Mayroon syempre (benefits). Basta meron insurance iyan,” the DOLE chief said.

He noted that such assistance would be given to OFWs who are bonafide members of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

“Kung bonafide member ang mga iyan, they will get the full benefit. May insurance din iyan eh. Pero meron din sila sigurong makukuha na not less than 150,000 from OWWA lang eh yung kanilang insurance pa,” Bello added.

He also said that they were now coordinating with the host country for the repatriation of the deceased Filipinos.

“Our Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) office there is assisting in their repatriation,” Bello added.

The four Filipinos died after a speeding vehicle rammed them and their parked vehicle last April 15 in Al Shahama, UAE.

They reportedly alighted their vehicle to check on the tire that exploded when the road accident happened.

Two other Filipinos were injured in the incident and are currently confined in a hospital.
