Former drug addicts will be among those whose feet will be washed by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Holy Thursday, April 13.
Fr. Roy Bellen of the Archdiocese of Manila’s Office of Communications said the cardinal will also wash the feet of drug surrenderers, policemen, government officials, volunteers and relatives of victims of extrajudicial killings.
The “Washing of the Feet” will take place at the Manila Cathedral at 5 pm during the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper.
Cardinal Tagle earlier called drug use and trade “an evil” that is “slowly killing people” during the launching of a church program for drug surrenderers in San Juan City.
At that time, the Manila archbishop asked the faithful not to leave behind drug dependents or treat them like outcasts.
He also reminded the faithful not to belittle the ability of people to change, emphasizing that even the worst of sinners can be redeemed and forgiven by God.
“Stop saying that they are useless and can be thrown away. We do not know what God will do. Maybe in His hands a miracle will happen,” Tagle said.
