The Maute Group has established its presence in Metro Manila, the Philippine National Police reported Tuesday, March 21.
“Seemingly, meron talagang grupo dito [Metro Manila] at meron silang [Maute Group] cell na nag-e-exist,” PNP Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde said, adding that the group is led by Yusof Makoto.
Albayalde also disclosed there are other improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that threatens the Metro, following the US Embassy incident.
“We know for a fact na talagang may iba pang IED na nakapasok dito sa Metro Manila,” Albayalde said, revealing that due to the threat the PNP doubled the security efforts during the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene and Miss Universe 2016 Coronation Day.
PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa, in the same press briefing, said the Lanao-based terror group remains the most powerful ISIS-linked group in the country.
“Ito na lng ’yung Maute ang buhay na malakas-lakas,” Dela Rosa said.
Despite, Dela Rosa urged the public “to remain calm yet alert and vigilant of the presence of threat groups,” assuring that the police is on high alert against terrorism.
The police yesterday arrested Nasip Ibrahim, 35, who’s in possession of explosive device and firearms.
