La Trinidad, Benguet — Tourists and revelers enjoying the 36th Strawberry Festival will get to see one of La Trinidad’s pride – a remade version of its Largest Strawberry Shortcake which earned a spot in the Guinness World Records in 2004.
Thirteen years after making the feat, the municipal government sponsored the reenactment of the baking of the world’s largest strawberry shortcake as a highlight of the festival’s grand celebration on Sunday.
“This is not the size as the Guinness record but big enough to give fun and enjoyment to our residents as a symbol of the unity and the good agricultural production. We also wanted to show to tourists how it was made and let them taste the strawberry cake. Strawberry is our one town, one product here,” said Mayor Romeo Salda.
The giant strawberry cake baked and put together by five known bake shops measured 12×18 feet in diameter and weighed 2.9 tons (weight). Its ingredients included 275 kilos of strawberries, 400 eggs, 112,000 grams of butter, 250 kilos of sugar and 675 kilos of flour. The cake costs P575,000.
