President Duterte has given P100 million to benefit the poor patients of the state-owned Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila.
The President turned over the check to PGH director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi during a meeting in Malacañang last Tuesday, March 8.
“The amount will be allocated for the underprivileged patients of the hospital who cannot afford medical procedures and treatments,” read a statement from the Radio-Television Malacañang that released a video preview of the meeting.
Also present in the meeting were Dr. Ireneo Quiron of the PGH Fiscal Services, Deputy Executive Secretary for Finance and Administration Rizalina Justol, and Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher ‘Bong’ Go.
The President has previously shown his soft spot for the poor after setting aside P2 billion for free medicine assistance to the public. The funds, sourced from the income of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp, were channeled through the Department of Health.
