The OFW Identification Card system proposed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was discussed during the Cabinet meeting in Malacañang last Tuesday.

Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said the ID card system for OFWs was “approved” but did not disclose the conditions set during the Cabinet assembly.

Instead, he said the proposed “unique ID card” for OFWs will facilitate easier access to government services.

“OFWs can easily transact with government and private agencies,” he said, adding the card will also provide access to their records with government agencies.

He said the card will also serve as ATM card/debit card for OFWs workers’ bank envisioned by the government. It could also be used as a beep card for MRT/LRT services.

Mababawasan ang nakawan, corruption at economic criminals, dahil alam ng gobierno ang takbo ng pera.

Why not just make a national ID and let the OFWs be the first to have it. This will become redundant when we have a national ID system.

And if you are not an OFW you won’t have easy access?
This thing sounds like another money corrupting scheme of some government agencies. What is the real purpose of this?

Bright boys, bright ideas… OFW ID for what? The card would entail cost and how much is the mark-up? Oh, P500? times 3,000,000 OFW that’s P1.5 Billion, then have it renewable! 1 yr, 2yr, 3yrs.? .. So it’s really business.. big business. .Why not use the passport instead.. have a different color for OFW…
