President Rodrigo Duterte was hailed the most “googled” person in the Philippines for the year 2016, TIME Magazine revealed.
The New York-based news magazine described Duterte as a leader known for “waging a deadly war on drugs.”
In another list, Google declared Duterte as the most searched male personality in the country, while his Wikipedia page was listed as one of the most edited pages in the free online encyclopedia.
Other politicians who made it to list include Peru’s Julio Guzmán and Brazil’s former president Lula da Silva.
Meanwhile, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump got the interest of people from across 88 countries, topping the roll of most searched personalities on the web.
Personalities from the world of sports and entertainment also made it to the roster. Colombians and Singaporeans were most interested in their homegrown Olympic gold medalists Mariana Pajón and Joseph Schooling.
Hollywood A-listers Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie were most looked up in the search engine in Morocco and Tunisia, respectively, while 2016 Model of the Year Gigi Hadid was most searched in Montenegro.

For presidential communications secretary Martin Andanar, it is “not surprising that people in the Philippines would be interested to known him and his platform” since, prior to his election victory, the former Davao City mayor was a “relatively unknown political figure outside Davao City and region XI.”
Campaigning on the issue of crushing criminality and drugs and eliminating corruption, Duterte received more than 16 million votes to become the country’s 16th president.
