Veteran broadcaster and former legislator Roberto “Bobby” Guanzon has succumbed to lung cancer on Sunday, December 18 at the age of 69.
The anchorman passed away at around 1:00 a.m. due to cardiac arrest, Guanzon’s daughter May confirmed to radio DZMM.
Guanzon’s last broadcast was in September, the same month he was diagnosed with malignant lung cancer.
Guanzon started his career in the media industry in 1968 as a radio news reporter for ABS-CBN’s DZAQ Radyo Patrol, serving the station until 1972.
He also served as a newscaster for GMA News and DZBB radio. He hosted shows such as “Tawag Pansin,” “GMA Balita” and “Kape at Balita” with Jessica Soho.
Guanzon was also a former host and anchor of “Isyu Ngayon” and “Teledyaryo” on NBN-4.
Entering politics in 1995, the veteran journalist served one term as representative of the first district of Caloocan until 1998.
Guanzon’s remains are laid in his house at BF Homes, Caloocan City. He will be transferred to the Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapel in Quezon City on Wednesday.
He is set to be buried on Saturday, DZMM reported.
